Is 2026 gonna be your year? I can help you. ๐Ÿ”ฅ The Curious Route

โ€‹

Hey Reader,

Each week in this newsletter I answer a question from a reader. This week's question feels timely given we're approaching the end of the year:

I've been considering joining The Curious Tribe for 2026 so I can really focus on making the year great for my career, but I'm not sure if it's the right fit for me. Can you tell me more about it?

I've actually gotten this question from multiple different people in the last couple of weeks so I figure others may be curious too. Let's talk about the tribe, what it's all about, how it helps people and you can think about if it's the right community for you.

[And I've got a special discount to offer you at the end of this email, something I've never done before... and probably never will again!]

Why I set up The Curious Tribe

If we step back a bit, the reason I set up The Curious Tribe is that I always had this sense that working in internal comms can be really lonely. This feeling has niggled at me in different jobs, in different organisations, in different ways over the years.

Sometimes I've been the only internal communicator in the whole organisation. Other times I've been the communications leader who is expected to have all the answers and figure everything out by myself. And other times, I've sat in a broader team (like HR or a full comms team) and yet still felt a bit 'outside' because I was the only one focused on internal comms and I just felt that no one really got it. I didn't really have any peers to talk to about internal comms and I definitely didn't have anyone who could help me when I got stuck.

And after joining multiple different institutes and memberships over the years I discovered that finding a community of peers who truly get your work - and can actually help you - is difficult!

I built The Curious Tribe because it didn't seem to exist anywhere else. This is the supportive, ambitious community I wanted so badly when I was in-house. I just went ahead and created it myself.

You don't have to be alone in internal comms anymore. You've got the tribe.

This is what The Curious Tribe is all about

The Curious Tribe is my membership community for internal communicators who are ready to up their game, to operate strategically at work, make an impact and be recognised as the valuable professionals they are.

It's the community I desperately needed when I was working in-house but couldn't find anywhere. A place to get advice from people who actually understand you and your job. A place to ask questions without judgment. A place to feel like you've finally found your people.

Right now there are 65 members from all over the world; Ireland, UK, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Estonia and The Netherlands. The tribe is designed so that I can get to know every single member personally and give you proper attention, not run some faceless forum with thousands of people where you feel invisible.

What's inside The Curious Tribe?

When you join, you get direct access to me. I'm active in the community forum and DMs every day; ask me anything about your specific challenges and I'll help you work through them. Members use this to get feedback on strategies, talk through difficult stakeholder situations, prepare for interviews, figure out how to have tricky conversations with their boss, design listening strategies, ask for help with their townhalls... anything goes.

You also get access to my Masterclasses that I've created on topics that actually move the needle for internal communicators:

  • A 3-tier prioritisation tool to figure out which stakeholder projects you should be deeply involved in (and which ones you shouldn't)
  • How to increase your influence in the organisation
  • How to change how people see you and redefine your reputation in the business
  • How to move from service provider to strategic partner
  • Practical advice on managing a workload that feels impossible

But wait.... there's more! You get access to my AI course "38 AI Prompts That Act As Your Internal Communications Assistant" and my brand new course on designing and running focus groups (which isn't available anywhere outside the Tribe yet). And you get my Internal Comms Cheat Sheets and my Internal Comms Audit Playbook.

As if that wasn't enough you get access to my Swipe File which has industry practices, policies, case studies, reports, ideas and links to fuel your inspiration and keep you full of new ideas.

Is that it? Nah. There's more.

There's a tribe-exclusive video library of every live event we've held. This includes sessions on using Viva Engage effectively, driving behaviour change through internal comms, handling layoff communications, practical tips on building a strategic narrative, a case study on rolling out new values, advice on how to do change comms and a lot more. All recorded so you can watch whenever suits you, wherever you're located in the world.

And because we have members located all over the globe, I even built a custom interactive map showing where all 65 members are located, so you can find tribe members near you for coffee or co-working. I do love when members DM me selfies of having coffee together or meeting up at conferences! Here's a pic from a meet-up in Cork last year.

And there's the Conversations space - where you post a challenge, ask for feedback, or share something you're working on and get responses from expert comms pros around the world who genuinely want to help you succeed.

Have you got any proof the Tribe helps people?

Y'all know I'm a nerd for data and evidence. So yes of course I've got proof! Let's start with some quantitative evidence from my recent member survey. Here's what the data shows:

  • Net Promoter Score (NPS) of +81. This is based on whether members would recommend the Tribe to others. To put the NPS score into context, a score above +70 is considered "world-class" and "exceptional". This puts The Curious Tribe among the top-performing professional communities globally.
  • Average member happiness score of 9 out of 10.
  • 73% of members can tie positive business outcomes directly to their membership. (Now we're talkin'!!)
  • 90% of members renew for a second year or more. I've got a bunch of members who have just renewed for their THIRD year of membership.

And let's look at some qualitative data too, which is equally as important. Let's look at what these members have to say:

Laura Edgerton, Head of Internal Comms, joined the Tribe during her first year working in internal communications. Here's what happened in her own words:

"I've just been shortlisted as a top newcomer in the IoIC awards. Last year was my first full year working in internal communications, as I had always been in external marketing and comms previously. The progress that I was able to make was due to the fantastic support I had from Joanna and The Curious Tribe."

And Gemma Pike joined the Tribe with a super specific goal in mind; she was working at Manager level and wanted to figure out how to get up to Head of Department level. And guess what? She's now Head of Internal Comms with Global Witness; she achieved her goal in her first year of membership.

And there is one more member I want to tell you about, but without naming names... this incredible woman has been leading internal comms in a tech company as a team-of-one for two years. She has recently achieved ALL of these incredible things: (a) got herself an internal promotion, (b) got herself "a big fat raise" (her own words") AND (c) grew the internal comms team to 3 and she now has 2 direct reports.

There's a reason that people renew their membership and stay loyal to the tribe: because it works. And I've got the receipts.

This is a friendly, personal community

One other thing I want to mention is that The Curious Tribe is not comprised of 1,000 members where you feel lost and unseen. I'm really proud that the tribe is personal, it's friendly, it's warm and welcoming.

I remember the best DM I got from a member about a month after she joined, she messaged me to say "hey, I can't believe there's no jerks in here!" and I was laughing because she was so perfectly on point. There are zero jerks in the tribe. Everyone in the community is genuinely lovely; passionate about internal comms, generous with their knowledge and kind to each other.

I've got an offer for you

Now if you've read this far then I'm guessing you are genuinely interested in this membership. So in the spirit of Christmas, I'm offering you a very limited-time-only โ‚ฌ100 off your annual membership if you join this week.

I'm not sharing this discount on LinkedIn or anywhere else; this is exclusively for you, my newsletter readers.

I've never ever offered a discount on this membership (and it's very unlikely I ever will again), so if you want to take advantage of my Christmas-induced moment of madness then you've got until 5pm this Friday 12th December to get your discounted membership.

After that, it goes back to full price. This is a one-time thing because I want to help you get set up for an incredible 2026 and finally make the impact you want at work.

Oh, and this isn't publicly announced yet, but the first-ever Curious Tribe Global Gathering will take place in April 2026. This is an in-person conference & connection event exclusively for tribe members where we can learn, share and connect in person (while also having a bit of fun along the way in a very beautiful city in Europe). If you join this week you can be a part of this in-person event too.

Ready to join?

If you've been on the fence about The Curious Tribe, this is your moment. Join before 5pm Irish time on Friday 12th December and save โ‚ฌ100.

Want your boss to pay? Email me at joanna@thecuriousroute.com and I'll get you set up with an invoice.

Hey Reader, Each week in this newsletter I answer a question from a reader. This week's question comes from an internal communicator in the UK who is job hunting. He asks: "I'm currently looking for a new role and I have no idea what salary I should be asking for. Every job I see seems to have a completely different salary for the same kind of role. What's normal? What should I expect to be paid at my level?" Hey fair question and a good one to ask so that you know your market rate when...

Sponsored by Workvivo Hey Reader, Last month, I did something I should have done ages ago. I stopped reading endless articles about how people could use AI and started investing more time in finding out how comms teams are actually using AI. And jeepers, that was time well spent. Because while everyone online is debating whether AI is going to save us or destroy us, and others are arguing about the theory and the semantics and the details, there are smart comms teams out there who are moving...

Hey Reader, Each week in this newsletter I answer a question from a reader. This week's question comes from an internal comms professional who asks a short but powerful question: "How can you maximise the impact of internal comms with a very lean team?" This question is powerful because it hits the reality of working in an internal comms role, or at least most roles. Many of you are operating as a team of one or a tiny team of two, some of you are experiencing cutbacks and layoffs and...
